CHARLIE RAE WALKER

PORTRAIT OF STORM
If you are seeing this, I have sent a link to the album on soundcloud for advance listening.
Thank you for offering your listening ear to these musical offerings. This is a low fi collection of songs. This album is ideally listened to in a restful scenario. The album will be available to listen to until Wednesday the 12th of March.
ABOUT THE RECORDINGS :
This collection of songs were all created in the spirit of the 'one take'.
The recording of the lyrics and voice you hear was made at the exact the moment of creation, caught on record. I improvised these songs, they weren't written down first . They are imperfect and capture a moment in time. Some of the songs have been collaged with other sonic environments and some are in their raw form.
For example :
On the song 'Little Horse' You will hear in the background the sound of my late grandmother's elder care home. At the end, you will hear one of my favourite elders Joan, complaining about the yellow beans in her meal.
Joan was an ancient woman whose body had curled around itself. I used to play my experimental compositions for the elders at the home on the piano. Joan would sit in the front row heckling me. She would yell " you're not a man! only men can play the piano!.
These songs capture memories for me, and together they form a story about the experience of recovery from illness caused by prolonged grief.
On the song ' Live in your world' You will hear the sound of my friends hearing aides.
The album revolves around a central idea of trying to capture the sound of a thunderstorm on a piano and a harp and found objects .
The songs are like diary entries from different times of my life over the last 4 years.
I hope you enjoy this collection of songs.
